Jacob Mitchell is a 200 HR certified yoga instructor through Tiny Buddha yoga in Ann Arbor Michigan, although his yoga journey began here in Albuquerque with Hatha yoga at CNM. After his first semester ended he explored other styles of yoga such as Ashtanga and Vinyasa, and other breath and movement practices including qi gong and dance. He studied Iyengar Yoga with Laurey Blakely at the Ann Arbor School of Yoga, and then Ashtanga at Tiny Buddha where he began to blend the precision of alignment with freedom of movements to develop his unique style of teaching. Jacob strives to incorporate the depth of his understanding of yoga as a lifestyle and way of being into his 1-hour asana classes, as well as into his own practice, and daily life. He sees yoga as an opportunity for self-exploration, and connection to something greater.
Jacob’s Gentle Yoga class offers opportunities to explore body awareness, the rage of motion, and flexibility, as well as focus on subtle energy, breathing, and mindfulness. The class begins with a short meditation, a warm-up and then explores movement and stillness in the body by connecting with the breath. Props are used to assist in maintaining alignment and making postures accessible to all levels
Jacob’s vin/yin class begins by warming up the body before moving into a sequence of poses that flow together utilizing the breath as a metronome, and prepares students for deeper stretches, balancing poses, and usually some core strengthening. He utilizes longer held yin and restorative postures to cool down and close out the practice and create a balance to the yang energy of vinyasa.
